In response to the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey, and the surrounding areas, it has become imperative to develop seismically sound buildings and implement urban transformation programs. These issues are addressed in this paper by evaluating the earthquakes that struck Pazarcık-Kahramanmaraş and Elbistan-Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023. The paper aimed to understand the effects of earthquakes on the built environment by thoroughly analyzing the earthquake-related harms and impacts. Examined were several issues, such as the detection and assessment of structural damage (losses) in the impacted areas, the evaluation of the resiliency of existing structures, and the identification of the necessary countermeasures for future risk mitigation. Also, this study encouraged the use of reliable design and construction techniques to promote the formation of seismic-resistant building stocks. It emphasized the significance of using advanced engineering methods to improve the structural integrity and seismic performance of buildings, such as base isolation and energy dissipation systems. The study also promoted the need to activate urban transformation programs to guarantee the long-term sustainability and safety of the impacted areas. It examined several urban renewal initiatives, such as infrastructural development, land-use planning, and community revitalization. The data gathered from the present study will aid in making informed decisions and enable the development of communities that are safer and more sustainable in the face of upcoming seismic events.
