INVESTIGATION OF THE STRENGTH OF REINFORCED POLYAMIDE 66 OIL PAN FOR DIFFERENT STONE IMPACT SCENARIOS

Even though diesel engine technology seems close to be ending in recent years, they still maintain their potential in maritime, industrial, heavy duty, tractor, high power requirements and many other sectors. It is also frequently encountered in construction machines and generator sets. In addition, vehicles which have diesel and gasoline fuel engines are still continue to be used frequently nowadays. In this study, a thermoplastic oil pan was designed for engine which is one of the heaviest components in vehicles. Glass fiber reinforced Polyamide 66 was chosen as the oil pan material for lightweight product design, which is one of the most important issues in the automotive industry. The oil pan structural design was made in accordance with the plastic injection method. In order to examine the resistance of the oil pan against stone impacts, two different stones with diameters of 10 and 50 mm were simulated hitting the oil pan at different angles and speeds. Finite element analyzes were performed using Altair Radioss software. As a result, the amount of deformation occurring on the oil pan due to the impact of stone impact and the energy values absorbed by the oil pan were obtained and these values were compared for different scenarios.
