Since the beginning of time, natural calamities have devastated people and civilizations. Tornadoes and wars, for instance, severely harm a system's structural and infrastructural components and result in fatalities. To protect human lives, engineers must create structures that can withstand the extreme wind-loading conditions caused by tornadoes (such as wind pressure and the impact of wind-borne debris). On the other hand, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency, Over 30 million individuals have refugee status. Approximately 22 percent of the world's refugee population lives in refugee camps – an estimated 6.6 million people as result of disasters. Among them, 4.5 million reside in planned and managed camps, and approximately 2 million are sheltered in self-settled camps. Refugee shelters are ad hoc structures created to shelter and aid those who have been compelled to escape their homes due to conflict, persecution, or other forms of violence. While shelters are not designed to give long-term solutions, they offer a haven for refugees and provide for their fundamental requirements, including food, water, shelter, medical care, and other essential services in times of need. Therefore, a portable, affordable, lightweight, and sustainable emergency shelter system is required. This paper will review the designs of disaster relief shelters in the last few years.
