DESIGN OF A VOLTAGE-MODE UNIVERSAL FILTER EMPLOYING TRIPLE-OUTPUT CURRENT CONVEYORS
 
In this study, a voltage mode universal filter is designed using a second generation current conveyor with three outputs. Current conveyors are the circuit blocks that are suitable for implementation inside integrated circuits and contain a translinear transistor loop that basically copies the voltage and a class-AB current mirror for copying the current. Current conveyors are classified as 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation according to their current-voltage copying properties. Among these groups, the most popular current conveyors are the 2nd generation current conveyors, thanks to their current and voltage conveying performance. In addition, variations of current conveyors such as controllable current conveyor and dual-X current conveyor are also available in the literature. In this study, a current conveyor employing three output terminals (Z terminals) was developed by adding additional Z terminals to the most popular 2nd generation current conveyor block. First of all, the performance of the proposed triple-output current conveyor circuit block is obtained by simulations performed in SPICE environment using 16nm CMOS technology. It is observed that the current conveyor successfully conveys the voltage of the Y terminal to the X terminal and the current of the X terminal to three different Z terminals. Then, a universal voltage mode filter circuit is designed employing the proposed triple-output current conveyors. The simulations of this circuit are also performed in SPICE environment and it is demonstrated that the low-pass, band-pass and high-pass responses of the circuit work as expected. It is expected that both the proposed triple-output second generation current conveyor and the designed universal filter will have contributions to the electronics literature.
