EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF FIRE RESISTANCE OF VARIOUS EQUIPMENT USED IN THE BISTRO WAGON

In our country, the railway infrastructure for land transportation (passenger and freight) in the field of transportation has shown significant developments in recent years in line with new technologies. Indigenization rates of various railway vehicles (locomotive, passenger and freight wagons, etc.) are increasing, as railways provide fast and various advantages compared to road transport (reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, reduction of transportation costs, etc.). In order to meet the various food and beverage service needs of the passengers during the transportation process on passenger trains, activities were carried out to increase the fire resistance by determining the material suitable for the interior equipment of the wagon, as well as the development of various food equipment designs for the bistro wagon with local resources. While designing the various equipment used in the interior of the bistro wagon, there is a need to ensure the fire resistance of the selected material in accordance with international standards for passengers and safety requirements in the environment where these products are located. In this study, the fire behavior of the materials and components related to fire protection in railway vehicles in line with the EN 45545-2:2020 standard of the acrylic-based material to be used in the interior use of the bistro wagon was investigated. In addition, evaluations were made with the ISO 5660-1 standard, the reaction to fire tests and the test data obtained within the scope of the cone calorimeter method. By determining the fire reaction class of the acrylic-containing material to be applied for the bistro wagon, gains were obtained in the direction of fire protection suitability in railway vehicles. In addition to the development of original designs of various kitchen equipment used in the bistro wagon, fire resistance conditions have been provided by R&D activities.
