GIS-BASED AVALANCHE SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS OF SÜLEYMANÝYE (GÜMÜÞHANE) SKI CENTER ROUTE

The flow of the snow layer accumulated in mountainous, rugged and high-altitude lands with heavy snowfall for various reasons can be expressed as an avalanche event. Avalanches need to be carefully evaluated, as they cause loss of life and property and adverse effects on the environment. In this study, avalanche paths and avalanche-sensitive areas were determined by making avalanche sensitivity analyses in the Süleymaniye district of Gümüþhane province. In the study, using DEM data with a resolution of 12.5 m, the data set was transferred to the geographic information systems program and slope, aspect, height, and slope shape maps were produced. When all the data obtained in the study are evaluated together, the area planned as a ski center; East and north of Yelliburun Hill, north of Sinektaþý Ridge, and west of Musalla Ridge have been identified as places with high avalanche sensitivity. In addition, avalanche susceptibility was determined to be moderate in a roughly north-south direction along Musalla Ridge. The avalanche susceptibility map produced based on Geographic Information Systems plays a decisive role in the planning of the accommodation areas planned to be established in the ski center, as well as the location selection of the chairlift and ski routes.
