MODEL PROPOSAL THAT INCLUDES SELECTION OF LEAN SIX SIGMA PROJECT, IMPLEMENTATION METHOD AND PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT

Global competition, dynamic customer requirements and limited natural resources make it difficult for manufacturing organizations to survive. For this reason, organizations use different methods to improve and develop their various processes in order to ensure continuity. Lean Six Sigma is one of the key business strategies used by manufacturing organizations to improve their operational performance. Many organizations, especially those in developed countries, have gained significant benefits with Lean Six Sigma (LSS) applications. Many organizations, seeing the successful applications of LSS, have also started LSS project studies, but the failure of LSS projects has disappointed the organizations. In this case, it shows that the project selection has a critical role in the successful execution of the lean six sigma (LSS) program. The aim of this study is to contribute to the successful conclusion of lean six sigma projects. In this direction, a comprehensive model has been proposed for LSS project selection, project implementation and performance evaluation afterwards. By observing the production of a company that produces protective tapes in Silivri, Istanbul, 3 alternative lean six sigma projects were determined to improve production processes. The 3 alternative projects identified were evaluated by 4 different decision makers with the project selection criteria determined by the literature review. In order to eliminate the subjective interpretations and uncertainties of the decision makers, the weights of the alternatives were determined with the CRITIC method by using interval - valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets, and then the alternatives were prioritized with the VIKOR method. Implementation steps were determined with DMAIC cycle and lean methods. Performance measurement criteria have been determined. Although these three issues have been dealt with separately in the literature, such a comprehensive study has not been found. The proposed model has been evaluated in the packaging industry as a production area. In future studies, the model can be developed, and its efficiency increased, by applying it in different production sectors and service areas. ORCID NO: 0000-0001-5915-6606
