SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL DISTRIBUTION OF AIR POLLUTANTS IN YALOVA, TURKEY
 
Today, air pollution poses the most important environmental risk factor for human health. It also has detrimental effects on aquatic life, soil, and materials. According to World Health Organization, 99% of the global population were living in places where the air quality levels exceed the organization’s air quality guidelines. Based on the Turkish Statistical Institute data, Yalova is the fourth most densely populated and second fastest growing city in Turkey. The city is located in the East of the Marmara Region and close to industry metropolises such as Istanbul, Kocaeli, and Bursa and home to industries such as plastic, paper, energy and chemical. A year-long (2021) time series, seasonal pattern, and diurnal profiles of air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitric dioxide (NO2), nitric oxide (NO), ozone (O3), fine particulate matter (PM2.5), and coarse particulate matter (PM10) along with meteorological data such as temperature, wind speed, and wind direction in Yalova and its sub-provinces Armutlu, and Altýnova are investigated in this study. Air pollution levels showed an increase in winter months and during rush hours throughout the year. Exceedances of PM10 National Air Quality Assessment and Management Regulation limit values (50 μg/m³, 24-hour average, daily) were observed for both Yalova and Armutlu stations.
