THE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DENIM WASHING CONTAINING HEMP FIBER

The history of denim fabrics, one of the oldest fabric types known in the textile sector, dates back to ancient periods. These fabrics continue to gain importance every day while maintaining their up-to-date preference. The development of sustainable production methods is important for our lives due to the environmental harm and high consumption problems of denim washing processes during the denim production. The fact that the jeans produced from denim fabric having a worn appearance is a preferred feature by consumers. To provide this effect, indigo or other dyestuffs on the fabric are removed and the fabric is decolorized. Some chemicals strip the dyestuff from the fabric theoretically and the fabric is bleached. Besides traditional bleaching chemicals such as sodium hypochlorite and potassium permanganate used in conventional processes, water consumption is also high during washing processes. Hemp fibers have become an increasingly important material in scientific, sectoral and economic terms because it is a renewable, sustainable and multi-purpose fiber. In the breeding of hemp fibers, soil and environmental protection is ensured due to the absence of high water consumption, the lack of the need for fertilizers and pesticides. To reduce the mentioned disadvantages, washing denim products containing hemp using ozone gas, one of the environmentally friendly, sustainable and innovative denim bleaching processes, will be discussed in this study.
