R&D PROJECT MANAGEMENT NEEDS AND PROBLEM ANALYSIS IN SOLAR ENERGY INDUSTRIES

Energy security is a crucial concern for every single country in the World. This issue has become more important lately due to political and environmental requirements. 27 EU Member States set a goal in EU Green Deal to reach climate neutral by 2050 and reduce emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and separated a budget of more than €2.1 trillion for grants, loans, and other mechanisms. Besides other countries have their own supporting mechanisms to provide incentives to projects. Solar energy projects play a critical role to reach ambitious targets. To reach better efficiencies and deployments, technologies must be developed and brought into market now faster than ever. However according to study of Project Management Institute (PMI) in 2021 on projects carried out in energy industry, only 57% of projects were on time, 63% of them within budget while 10% of projects failed before reaching to any point at all. In this study, status quo of solar energy related R&D projects and its organizations have been observed by carrying out surveys with researchers, project managers, principal investigators and executives in private R&D centers, universities, nonprofit and governmental organizations worldwide. Results have been presented to understand the problems, their needs and involve them in decision-making processes while bringing an innovative project management approach which will increase the impact on success rate of R&D projects in solar energy industry.
